What is Sorta?
Sorta is an app for making decisions when you have too many options.
The idea is simple: you list out the three, five, ten, however many options you’re facing in your choice: What kind of job to apply for. Which college to go to. Where to go for vacation. Etc.
Then, you focus in and compare only two at a time, and choose one of those two. Then you repeat that process until the list is sorted. Along the way you learn a lot about yourself.
If you don’t know which of those two to choose, then you write. And you continue writing until you’ve picked one.
That’s it. That’s the whole thing.
You repeat that process. Bit by bit, piece by piece, you sort out your options.
Why use Sorta?
I wrote Sorta for myself, because my life is plagued with indecision. I have lost decades because I couldn’t decide which direction to go.
This app is for you if:
- You are smart and creative, good at what you do, but feel stuck in life
- You find clarity from writing your thoughts
- You are depressed and anxious most of the time, but feel strong and alive when you have a clear direction
Sorta has two benefits:
- Immediate: You make some decisions. You feel less anxious and experience the improved drive that comes from having a direction.
- Long-term: You get better at making decisions. That’s a big deal.
How do I get started?
You can get started right now. We’ve got a free tier and a paid tier.
The free tier includes everything above:
- Make a list of options
- Compare options two at a time
- Writing when you get stuck on a specific comparison
- Repeat, and slowly sort yourself out
- (You can have as many lists as you like)
You can make a list of options (there’s no limit on lists), compare two options at a time, write when you’re unsure, and slowly sort yourself out.
The paid tier (coming soon) is $5/month, and adds some AI features:
The AI is not a substitute for thinking. Basically, the AI features are:
- It’ll prompt you with questions if you’re stuck in your writing
- It’ll alert you if your focus wavers
- It’ll reflect back and summarize what you write in new words
- It’ll extract an explicit list of personal values from your writing
